Motivational Interviewing
for rehabilitation workers, case managers
and employment advisers

A one-day or half-day training session

Overview

In these cost-cutting times, there is a need for organisations to be as efficient and effective as they can be. When working with people who are having problems in returning to employment, better outcomes can be achieved by using certain validated techniques, such as Motivational Interviewing, to help clients take ownership and move on towards their goals. This has a beneficial effect both for the individuals, for the professionals working with them and for the employing organisations.

Aim of the course: to equip participants with a practical tool to enhance their work with rehabilitation clients and job seekers, thus improving return-to-work outcomes.

Learning objectives: by the end of the session, participants will:

  • Understand the core theory and origin of MI, and its link with active listening
  • Have had an opportunity to try out the technique on one another
  • Have considered and planned applications of MI to their work
  • Be aware of how to access further information if necessary.

Learning methods: discussion (large and small group), practical exercises, tutor presentation.
